Research Project for Action for Children’s Arts

In 2023 I conducted a series of interviews with primary teachers in Rural Scotland as part of an evaluation of the UK-wide Arts Backpack programme, which brings arts activities into primary schools. One of the most exciting parts of this evaluation was a survey of over 40 primary children, and presenting the findings back to Primary 5 and 7 pupils in an age-appropriate but challenging format. The findings were also brought together in a formal report to highlight the successes and identify opportunities for the future of the programme.

Literature Search and Summary for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland

In 2020 I produced a substantial evidence summary for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland. This covered a range of different topics surrounding the issues of reviewing patient deaths in mental health detention. This project also covered homicides committed by people subject to mental health detention. Of particular interest was looking at what Scotland can learn from policy and practice from other jurisdictions worldwide. This complex project involved extensive literature searches of many major medical databases including MEDLINE, PsychInfo, ASSIA, Epistemonikos and Cochrane. I also searched Coroner’s Reports, policy documents, newspaper articles and grey literature from England and Wales, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

At the request of the Mental Welfare Commission, the report from this project will not be available on this site at this time but may be at a future date.

Literature Search for Churches Action for the Homeless

In 2017 I produced a summary of literature for the Perth-based charity Churches Action for the Homeless. They needed a summary of the best available evidence to support an employability programme for to help homeless people.
